MC BIKEPACKING 2024

The Maremma Challenge was created with the aim of introducing bicycle lovers to the splendid territory of the Maremma where cycling is enjoyed all year long. Supported and promoted by the Region of Tuscany, the Maremma Challenge is both a sporting event and a promotional event for a tourist destination. In fact, after the event, this grand tour will be independently accessible by anyone for free all year round with the possibility of obtaining the UISP Maremma Challenge Certificate of Maremma Ecosustainable Mobility ASD.

An exciting tour born from the idea of Giovanni Pettinari, founder of MaremmaMe ASD, and great connoisseur of the territory, who has been involved in developing the Maremman circuit for years , and realized thanks to the contribution of Ernesto Hutmacher and his team at Bike Garage & More (BGM). The keywords of this project are excitement, fun and safety.

All the highlights

MAREMMA CHALLENGE

The circular route starts from the heart of the medieval city of Massa Marittima, continues through the suggestive beech woods of Monte Amiata, and up to Monte Labbro where you can enjoy an unforgettable view over the entire Maremma. You will cycle through medieval villages, woods, vineyards and olive groves, until you reach the extraordinary Città del Tufo (Pitigliano, Sorano, Sovana), ancient jewels erected on tuff spurs overlooking unforgettable natural landscapes.

The second part of the route winds towards the sea, where you will encounter the evergreen Mediterranean scrub. You will stop to admire the views from the Argentario Promontory on the Tuscan Archipelago, then cross the Diaccia Botrona Nature Reserve considered the most significant surviving Italian wetland near the enchanting seaside village of Castiglione della Pescaia. To return to Massa Marittima and close this beautiful tour, you will cycle along the lush pine forest of Punta Ala and reach the musical beach of Cala Violina, which takes its name from a detail that makes it unique: its tiny grains of quartz sand create a melody at every step.

These and many other wonders await you during the Maremma Challenge!
